Every year, Sanimax recovers and recycles over 2 million tonnes of animal by-products, equivalent to 35% of the waste generated by the whole of Quebec! Our activities are a perfect example of the circular economy.
It’s a concrete gesture for the environment, but also a challenge of cohabitation that we take very seriously.
About a year ago, the signing of the tripartite agreement between Sanimax, the City of Montréal and the Quebec government marked the start of an ambitious plan to improve cohabitation with RDP-PAT residents.
Last October, we shared with you the six moths review.
Since the beginning of the tripartite agreement, Sanimax has made continuous efforts to ensure that cohabitation with its neighbors is as harmonious as possible, while continuing to provide essential services.
Our concrete actions in 2024:
- Permit application submitted in June 2024 to the City of Montréal for the construction of dome-type garages including an air handling unit
- Permit application filed in September 2024 for a world-class air handling system, certified by a world-renowned air management system consultant
- Permit application submitted in September 2024 for improved facilities for loading finished products.

Our concrete actions in 2025:
- Inauguration of an industrial scale at the entrance to 7th Street
- Permanent relocation of the trailer and raw materials entrance from Maurice-Duplessis Boulevard to 7th Street
Our concrete actions with the community over the years:
- A liaison officer is on hand in the field during the summer to report any anomalies to our team.
- The RDP-PAT and Sanimax Citizens’ Committee meets regularly to discuss issues and solutions.
- Sanimax keeps the community informed of its initiatives and work through this blog, a newsletter and a private Facebook group, in addition to distributing door hangers and other information tools.
- In coordination with the Ville de Montréal, Sanimax documents each problem situation reported by citizens, and the mitigation measures implemented immediately, as well as longer-term corrective measures.
Status report for summer 2025
Major work is being considered to provide RDP-PAT residents with a better quality of life.
The tripartite agreement included the construction of ventilated garages, enabling trailers awaiting treatment to be stored in a controlled environment.
Sanimax remains committed to investing to improve your quality of life.
In closing, it’s important for us to mention that elsewhere in Quebec, Sanimax is also in action for cohabitation:
